Lily found a spare roll of toilet paper and wanted to play with it. I reluctantly let her; really I was thinking of the monkeys at the zoo that they give new toys to every day for "educational purposes". (Is it odd I compare my child to a monkey at the zoo?) And what does she use it for? To begin with she stuck something in the middle and called it a birthday cake. After a few rounds of singing with it she put it in a basket and bought it at the grocery store. Then it was on to pirate adventures, who knew a single roll of toilet paper could be used as an essential pirate tool? Great as a pirate scope while simultaneously functioning as material to tie up the little brother (without getting in trouble), and as material to create a hairband making him a little sister instead. After the pirate adventures it was used in the doctor's office to provide sanitation for patients on the exam table and as bandages for the hurt stuffed animals. And after that dad used it as a "clean up" lesson. Minimal mess, minimal cost, overall a successful sometimes toy.

Wow! And how much time do you spend at the zoo? You know, children Lilly's age do a lot of role playing and re-enact things she's seen (exam table paper, ect). So, how did she learn to tie her brother to the swing?
